She’ll Say Yes! With A Rare Black Diamond Engagement Ring
What is the engagement, if not one of the most important steps you will ever make, one that will most likely define the rest of your life?
People get together and decide to spend their life together, to share their joys and form a beautiful family, and it all traces back to that unique moment when you ask the big question.
Getting it all to be just perfect when you say the words sets you off on the right foot to a life full of happiness and satisfaction. And of course, one of the key ingredients to making sure it all goes fabulous is the engagement ring.
The ring is the one thing that you will both look at and think of the second it all happened, when you decided to form a family.
Although I could write books about the subject, I want to talk particularly about the black diamond engagement rings.
April’s birthstone, diamond has always been a classic, the first choice for anybody looking for the perfect engagement ring. It has something to do with its sparkle, its luster and it pure beauty. Or maybe because it is a symbol for something that cannot be broken, something that will live on no matter what, something timeless.
The black diamond, on the other hand, has invariably kept an air of mystery around it. Much harder to find and lacking those rare traits of its colorless brother, it is somewhat hard to explain the fascination that people hold for it. Yet, people do choose it to mark one of the most sacred unions of their lives.
However, one such ring is not necessarily for everyone. It is only appropriate if your loved one is somewhat against old-fashioned customs. I could say, against the mainstream culture, with a little bit of rebel attitude.
Carmen Electra, for instance, got one from Dave Navarro. Carole Lombard also received one from Cary Grant.
What makes black diamond engagement rings special?
For one, black diamonds are much scarcer than the regular ones, making them so much more valuable.
In fact, they are hardly ever found in the wild. Most of the ones you will find in a jewelry store are specially treated, either with heat of radiation to create a color so dark that it appears black.
The natural ones, the few that there are, owe their color to small inclusions of graphite. For that reason, their color is not evenly distributed and they may look a little shady.
Although in the same family, you cannot rely on the four Cs of diamonds when looking for a black diamond engagement ring. They are opaque, so the whole cut, color, clarity and carat poem goes out the window.
What is important to know is that the more intense and uniform the black, the more valuable the stone.
As for the carat, the best known black diamond is the 67 carat Black Orlov which some believe is actually a part of the 195 carat Eye of Brahma that was stolen from a sacred Indian temple.
In numerous rings, they pair the black diamond with smaller colorless diamonds in order to create a powerful contrast. This way, you get the best of two worlds and your sweetheart will appreciate it. She will certainly say yes!
P.S. I’ve found that Gemvara has a fantastic selection of black diamond engagement rings, ranging from some of the simplest of designs to the most elaborate pieces I’ve ever seen. Go check their website to get a full picture of their catalog.
