What Does my Birthstone Really Mean?

Whenever you are receiving a piece of jewelry, it is a little romantic to hear what that particular stone symbolizes, what good fortune it is supposed to bring to the bearer.

It is beautiful to hear a story of the history behind that gem, and above all, it’s great to see that the person who is offering you that jewel really thought about something that truly represents you.

But who really knows the real truth behind all the birthstones?

What does my birthstone really mean?

Believe it or not, that is actually  a pretty tough question to answer.

First, there are the traditional birthstones, the modern birthstones, the Sumerian stones and so on… Each of these has different and even contradictory attributes assigned to the same stone. How is one to choose the beast meaning?

True, it really is nice to hear what some culture thought of a certain stone, why some other culture use another stone for who knows what ritual. It’s something that brings out the child in you. You want to know more about it, and if there is something that resonates with you, you have the best reason to believe it.

On the other hand, every person who offers somebody a birthstone jewel either tells the story he was told by somebody else, either improvises something so as to make the receiver feel the importance that he’s given to the stone.

What your birthstone symbolizes above all is the true caring from the person who dedicated his time to finding you a stone that best represents you. I doesn’t matter what some association says that a stone represents this month. You make all the meanings.

A gift is, after all, a way of saying to somebody how important that person is to you. You could look into the meanings that others have tried to associate with it, but you are the one who truly appreciates a stone’s significance.
